10 Books I NEED to Buy

My list of books to buy has been growing larger and larger as the years go by. Whenever I hear about a book I want to read, it’s most likely going on the list. I already own way too many books, but one of my life goals is to own a large personal library. So buying books will always be a passion of mine. After a few weeks of stalking Book Depository, I noticed that there were always a few books I kept gravitating towards. I’ve decided that these 10 books are the ones I really want to buy whenever I have the chance.
1. The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath by Sylvia Plath
I am a huge Plath fan, and it only makes sense to complete my collection of her work!
2. Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann
I’ve seen Valley of the Dolls listed as a cult classic ever since I was a teenager. I’ve been really intrigued by the book, and I also really want to watch the movie afterwards.
3. The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
Another book in a collection I need. I have 3 of the Penguin Orange Collection, and I want to expand it. I also heard really good things about this book from coworkers, so it’s on my list.
4. Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
Bad Feminist caught my attention when it first came out with its title. I love the premise of this book, and I really want to see what Roxane Gay is like as an author.
5. The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir
I read The Second Sex in university, but I never owned my own copy of the book. I really loved reading it back then, and I love to own books I like, even if I never owned them before.
6. Flappers and Philosophers by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I have only read The Great Gatsby, and one short story, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I like how he writes, and I want to see how his other work compares to Gatsby. (Plus the collection of his books are gorgeous).
7. Carrie by Stephen King
I haven’t read any King novels before, and I really want to see if they’re just as good as the movies. I also want to read more horror, so I think King is a good starting point.
8. The Secret History by Donna Tartt
The Secret History is a book I have seen on Instagram about a million times. It’s definitely a hyped book, but I want to read it myself to make up my mind.
9. Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy
I’m a huge fan of Austen, and I want to see how other authors in this time period were like. I have heard good things about this novel, and I hope it will impress me as much as Austen, or Bronte.
10. Orlando by Virginia Woolf
I read the summary for this book, and I am obsessed. It’s such a cool concept, and I’m surprised I never heard about Orlando as much as other Woolf books. I’ll link the summary here.

As you can probably tell, I love to collect books, especially ones in a series. I want to complete many of my collections, including the Pelican Shakespeare collection. Alas, I don’t have all the money in the world, so I need to be selective, and strategic, about what I buy and when. Do you collect books as well? What books are on your buying list?
